AFRICA INSURTECH LAB

Africa InsurTech Rising (AIR) -- also branded as Africa InsurTech Lab -- is Africa's premier platform aggregating all stakeholders in the insurance technology ecosystem, with a specific focus on the African insurance market. Founded in July 2019 by Dr. Tunde Salako and Osi Akpene in Lagos, Nigeria, AIR's mission is to build and nurture the African insurance technology space, increasing insurance penetration and inclusion across the continent.

AIR operates under the RIDE framework -- Resilience, Innovation, Divergent thinking, and Excellence -- and structures its programs around four core pillars: mentorship, investment readiness, clarity, and visibility. The organization emphasizes locally developed solutions that address Africa-specific insurance challenges rather than adapting global products, recognizing the continent's unique dynamics including widespread mobile penetration, over 470 technology hubs, and growing engineering talent.

Africa represents approximately 18% of the global population yet less than 3% insurance coverage, representing a significant underserved opportunity that AIR works to address through ecosystem building, startup support, and cross-border collaboration programs.
