Agile Risk Solutions
A technology-focused D&F reinsurance MGA pioneering collateralised facultative reinsurance as a new ILS asset class.
Overview
Agile Risk Partners is a London-based MGA start-up specialising in direct and facultative (D&F) property reinsurance, with a technology-driven approach to structuring insurance-linked securities (ILS) transactions. Founded in 2018 by ex-broker James Poole and veteran D&F underwriter Richard Foster, the firm operates as the first MGA combining in-house outwards reinsurance placement with actuarial capability.
The company targets a largely untapped opportunity: transforming complex, large-limit D&F property risks into investable ILS components for capital markets investors, particularly hedge funds. By bringing alternative reinsurance capital to ceding companies, Agile aims to reduce the total cost of risk for its insurance and reinsurance clients while delivering competitive returns to capital providers.
Agile secured a USD 250 million capital commitment from a major hedge fund for its "Special Reinsurance Situations" strategy, and by late 2022 had deployed USD 50 million across a portfolio of five deals. The firm uses a Bermuda-based segregated account captive structure (Horseshoe Re) to facilitate fully cash-collateralised transactions.
