AIPSO

The Automobile Insurance Plans Service Office (AIPSO) is a national, not-for-profit corporation founded in 1973 to serve as the central management and administrative organization for the U.S. automobile insurance residual market -- the mechanism that ensures high-risk drivers who cannot obtain coverage through the standard voluntary market can still access legally required auto insurance.

AIPSO provides effective and efficient administration of auto insurance residual market mechanisms in 37 states and the District of Columbia. The majority of these are Automobile Insurance Plans (AIPs), and their management, administrative, and operations functions are performed by AIPSO employees. Services span actuarial rate development, plan administration, statistical reporting, IT platforms, legal services, and fraud containment.

The organization was incorporated in December 1972, with operations commencing in January 1973. Revenue has grown from USD 34.6M in 2011 to USD 140.3M in 2024, reflecting significant growth in plan administration responsibilities. With roughly 541-554 employees across its headquarters and regional offices, AIPSO has earned recognition as a "Great Place to Work" and a USA TODAY Top Workplaces USA honoree.
