American Equity Investment Life Insurance Company is a leading annuity carrier founded in 1995 by David Noble, who spent more than 50 years in the insurance industry before establishing the company with a mission to put the policyholder first. Headquartered in Des Moines, Iowa, American Equity has grown to fund more than half a million retirements nationwide, building more than USD 59 billion in total assets.

The company distributes its annuity products through a variable-cost network of over 40,000 independent agents and financial advisors affiliated with independent marketing organizations (IMOs), banks, and broker-dealers. Its subsidiaries include Eagle Life Insurance Company and American Equity Investment Life Insurance Company of New York, extending its distribution reach across additional markets.

In May 2024, Brookfield Reinsurance completed the acquisition of American Equity Investment Life Holding Company (AEL) in a transaction valued at approximately USD 4.3 billion, making AEL a private subsidiary of Brookfield Wealth Solutions. Following the acquisition, Jeffrey Lorenzen was appointed CEO. The company subsequently announced a planned relocation of its headquarters from West Des Moines to downtown Des Moines, with the move expected upon expiration of the existing office lease in late 2025.
