Asurion
Technology care company providing device protection, repair, and tech support for smartphones, electronics, and connected home devices.
Overview
Asurion is a privately held global technology care company headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee. Founded in 1994 by Stanford graduates Kevin Taweel and Jim Ellis, the company began as a roadside assistance provider before pivoting to mobile device insurance after acquiring Nashville-based Merrimac Group in 1999. Today, Asurion is the dominant provider of smartphone insurance in the United States, protecting over 300 million customers worldwide through partnerships with major wireless carriers, retailers, and OEMs.
Asurion operates as a B2B2C business, embedding device protection, repair, and tech support services into the offerings of wireless carriers (AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile), major retailers (Amazon, Best Buy, Walmart), and OEMs (Google). The company processes tens of millions of device protection claims annually, operates nearly 700 uBreakiFix retail repair locations across the US, and employs more than 16,800 people globally. In December 2025, Asurion announced a definitive agreement to acquire Domestic & General Group Limited, a UK-based appliance care provider with 22 million appliances under management across Europe, to establish a global leader in connected home care.
