Overview
AXA MPS is an Italian bancassurance joint venture formed in 1991 between AXA Group and Banca Monte dei Paschi di Siena (MPS), one of Italy's oldest and largest banks. The partnership was restructured in 2007 when AXA acquired a 50% stake in both the life and non-life entities -- AXA MPS Assicurazioni Vita S.p.A. and AXA MPS Assicurazioni Danni S.p.A. -- creating one of Italy's most significant bancassurance operations.
The company distributes insurance products exclusively through the MPS banking network, serving approximately 4 million families across Italy. AXA MPS is part of AXA Italia alongside AXA Assicurazioni and operates under the supervision of IVASS (the Italian insurance regulator). AXA MPS Assicurazioni Vita has a paid-in capital of EUR 499M; AXA MPS Assicurazioni Danni has a paid-in capital of EUR 39M.
The current bancassurance agreement is set to expire in 2027. Renewal discussions are ongoing, with Italian insurer Generali also reportedly interested in the partnership.
