Overview
AXA XL is the property and casualty (P&C) and specialty risk division of AXA Group, one of the world's largest insurance and financial services groups. Headquartered in Stamford, Connecticut and domiciled in Hamilton, Bermuda, AXA XL serves commercial and specialty clients across more than 200 countries and territories. The entity traces its roots to 1986 when EXEL Limited was formed by 68 Fortune 500 companies in response to the early-1980s liability crisis. Through a series of mergers and acquisitions -- most notably the USD 4.1 billion acquisition of Catlin Group in 2015 and AXA's USD 15.3 billion acquisition of XL Group in September 2018 -- the company became AXA XL and took its current form as AXA's global commercial P&C flagship.
