Overview
AXA XL is the property, casualty, and specialty risk division of AXA Group, formed in September 2018 when AXA acquired XL Group in a landmark USD 15.3 billion transaction. The division consolidated AXAs existing P&C and specialty operations with the acquired XL Group business, creating one of the worlds largest commercial lines and specialty insurers. XL Group itself traces its origins to EXEL Limited, formed in 1986 in the Cayman Islands by 68 Fortune 500 companies seeking creative risk transfer solutions.
AXA XL provides insurance and reinsurance solutions across more than 200 countries and territories through a network of over 100 offices on six continents. The division serves more than 90% of Fortune 500 companies and reported approximately USD 8.4 billion in annual revenue. Reinsurance gross written premiums grew 8% year-on-year to EUR 2.6 billion for FY2025.
The division operates across commercial insurance and reinsurance segments, with growing focus on Excess and Surplus (E&S) lines. The E&S segment grew 41% year-to-date through July 2025 and the Programs business increased 44.8% year-on-year, reflecting strong market demand for specialty risk solutions.
