Overview

AXA is one of the world's largest insurance and financial protection groups, serving over 92 million clients in 52 countries. The company traces its earliest roots to 1816 through predecessor mutual insurers in Normandy, France, and formally adopted the AXA brand in 1985 under the leadership of Claude Bebear. Today AXA operates across property-casualty insurance, life insurance and savings, health insurance, and asset management.

The group's 2024-2026 strategic plan, "Unlock the Future," targets 6-8% annual underlying EPS growth, a 14-16% underlying return on equity, and EUR 21 billion in cumulative cash upstream. FY2025 results exceeded expectations: gross revenues reached EUR 116 billion (up 6%), underlying earnings hit EUR 8.4 billion (up 6%), net income rose 24% to EUR 9.8 billion, and the Solvency II ratio improved nine points to 224%.

AXA is distinguished by its technology investments among global carriers. In 2025 the company ranked first globally in the Evident AI Insurance Index with a score of 63 points, ahead of all peers. AXA SecureGPT -- an enterprise generative AI platform built on Azure OpenAI Service -- was among the first of its kind at a major insurer and is now in active use across the group. CEO Thomas Buberl has stated that AI transformation is a central priority for 2026, with investments in automation already producing measurable efficiency gains.
