Overview
Clal Insurance and Finance (branded Clalbit) is one of Israel's largest insurance and financial services groups. The holding company, Clal Insurance Enterprises Holdings Ltd., has been listed on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange (ticker: CLIS) since the late 1980s and operates without a controlling shareholder -- its largest holders are Alrov Real Estate (~14.45%), Harel Group (~7.5%), and Phoenix Group (~7.1%).
The group commands approximately 15% of the Israeli insurance market by gross earned premiums (2024) and manages assets exceeding NIS 369 billion through its subsidiaries. Its four operating segments are Long-Term Savings (life insurance and pension/provident funds), Health Insurance, General Insurance, and Credit Cards (through subsidiary Max). Products are distributed via approximately 3,700 independent insurance agents.
The group acquired Max (formerly CAL -- Credit Cards for Israel), a credit-card and consumer-lending company, in 2023, significantly expanding its financial services footprint to serve over 3.2 million active cardholders and approximately 70,000 businesses.
