Overview

Elevate Security was founded in 2017 in San Francisco, California, by Robert Fly and Masha Sedova -- both former senior cybersecurity executives at Salesforce. The company built a behavioral risk intelligence platform that ingested security signals from across the enterprise, scored individual users by risk level, and enabled security teams to take targeted, proactive action against the highest-risk individuals in their organizations.

The platform addressed a fundamental gap in traditional security tooling: while enterprises invested heavily in perimeter and endpoint defenses, human behavior remained the primary driver of breaches. Elevate Security processed more than two billion data points from over 50 different sources -- including email platforms, endpoint tools, and identity systems -- and synthesized them into per-user risk scores with automated intervention triggers. Internal research found that 8% of employees cause 80% of security incidents.

In January 2024, Mimecast acquired Elevate Security to strengthen its human risk management capabilities. The acquisition integrated Elevate Security's behavioral scoring and risk intelligence into Mimecast's broader email and collaboration security platform. The elevatesecurity.com website now redirects to Mimecast's Human Risk Management platform page, and Elevate Security's technology powers Mimecast's Human Risk Command Center, launched in 2025.
