Overview

HDFC ERGO General Insurance Company Limited is India's fourth-largest private sector general insurer and the eighth largest overall by gross direct premium income. Established in 2002 as a joint venture between HDFC Ltd. and ERGO International AG (the primary insurance arm of Munich Re Group), the company is now a subsidiary of HDFC Bank Limited following the July 2023 merger of HDFC Ltd. with HDFC Bank.

Registered with the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) under registration number 146, the company operates from 200+ branches across 170+ cities in India and employs approximately 11,200 people. Its claim settlement ratio for health insurance ranked at 100% per IRDAI data, joint-best in the sector.

In FY2025 the company reported net earned premium of INR 9,030 crore (USD approx. 1.1B) and net profit of INR 500 crore, up 14% year-over-year. A rights issue completed in August 2024 brought in INR 570 crore of additional capital.
