Overview

Insure The Box is the UK's pioneering and leading telematics-based personal auto insurance carrier, founded in 2010 and headquartered in London. The company was one of the first to deploy black box telematics technology at scale to monitor driving behaviour and price motor insurance policies based on how safely customers actually drive -- rather than demographic assumptions alone.

The brand operates as a trading name of Aioi Nissay Dowa Insurance UK Limited, which is authorised by the Prudential Regulation Authority (PRA) and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) and PRA (Financial Services Register number: 816870). The parent company, Aioi Nissay Dowa Insurance, is part of Japan's MS&AD Insurance Group and acquired full ownership of Box Innovation Group (the holding company for Insure The Box) in 2018, having initially purchased a 75% stake in December 2014 for GBP 105M.

By 2020, Insure The Box had accumulated over 6 billion miles of driving data and achieved more than 690,000 policy sales, establishing an 80%+ customer retention rate. The company also operates the Drive Like a Girl sub-brand, aimed at young women aged 17-25 who benefit most from telematics-based pricing versus traditional age- and gender-neutral rating.
