Founded in 2016 as Verifly -- initially focused on drone operator insurance -- the company rebranded to Thimble in 2019 and expanded to cover over 1,000 activities and professions across the United States.
Operating as a managing general agent (MGA) and insurance producer (DBA: Thimble Insurance Services; legal entity: Verifly Insurance Services, LLC), Thimble distributes policies underwritten by A-rated carriers including Markel, Employers, and Hiscox. The company distinguishes itself through its fully digital quote-to-bind experience: fewer than five questions, a quote in under 60 seconds, and coverage active within minutes. Policies can be purchased by the job, month, or year, eliminating the traditional annual commitment that many small businesses found burdensome.
In April 2023, Arch Insurance Group (a division of Arch Capital Group Ltd.) acquired Thimble, integrating it as a wholly owned subsidiary. As of mid-2025, Thimble has served over 151,000 small businesses, bound more than 250,000 policies, and completed nine consecutive quarters of growth under Arch ownership.
