Overview

Athenium Analytics is an enterprise risk analytics and quality assurance software company serving property and casualty insurance carriers, U.S. government agencies, and financial institutions. The company traces its roots to two distinct entities: Athenium Inc., originally founded as a portfolio company of In-Q-Tel in 1997 to deliver granular data analytics to the U.S. military and intelligence community, and Weather Analytics, founded in 2012 as a specialist in atmospheric and weather data decision-support tools. The two merged in 2018 to form a unified platform spanning risk intelligence and insurance quality management.

In November 2024, New York-based private growth equity firm Hale Capital Partners acquired a majority stake through a cooperative recapitalization, bringing in Jim Greenwell as the new CEO to lead the next phase of growth. The investment is intended to accelerate product development and expand into new verticals across insurance, financial services, and beyond.

Athenium serves roughly one-third of the largest P&C insurance carriers in the United States, with more than 65,000 government and business professionals relying on its products globally. The company employs approximately 80 people, with more than half located in New England, and counts among its federal clients the U.S. Air Force, CIA, and Department of Homeland Security.
