LoJack Corporation
The original stolen vehicle recovery system -- directly integrated with law enforcement since 1979.
Overview
LoJack Corporation is a pioneer in stolen vehicle recovery and connected vehicle telematics, founded in 1979 by former Medfield, Massachusetts police commissioner William Reagan. The company's technology uses GPS, cellular communications, and a patented radio frequency (RF) transceiver to locate and recover stolen vehicles. LoJack is the only stolen vehicle recovery system directly integrated with law enforcement tracking equipment nationwide, achieving a 98% recovery rate for equipped vehicles. Since its founding, the system has recovered more than 200,000 stolen vehicles in the United States, with cars protected by LoJack recovered on average ten times faster than those using standard consumer GPS devices.
LoJack completed an IPO in 1983 and traded on NASDAQ under the symbol LOJN. The brand was acquired by CalAmp in 2016 for USD 134 million. In 2021, Spireon acquired the LoJack US Stolen Vehicle Recovery business from CalAmp, combining LoJack's user base with nearly 4 million Spireon subscribers. On March 1, 2022, Solera Holdings completed its acquisition of Spireon, bringing LoJack under Solera's vehicle solutions portfolio. Today, LoJack operates as part of Solera Holdings, a global leader in vehicle lifecycle management technology.
LoJack's insurance relevance is significant: insurance carriers typically offer 10% or more discounts on comprehensive coverage for vehicles equipped with LoJack, and LoJack telematics data supports claims investigations for stolen or damaged vehicles.
