Overview

NavVid is a telematics and driver risk-safety platform that turns a standard smartphone into a combined dashcam and navigation device. The NavVid app runs on any mobile device, providing turn-by-turn directions while simultaneously recording dashcam video and capturing sensor data including GPS location, speed, and G-forces. When an incident is detected, the platform automatically generates an on-road incident report that packages all captured evidence for review.

The company targets multiple segments: fleet operators who need vehicle tracking and safety analytics, ride-share companies seeking automated incident documentation, individual drivers who want telematics-based insurance rates, and insurance carriers building pay-as-you-drive (PAYD) and usage-based insurance (UBI) programs. NavVid positions itself as a cost-effective alternative to dedicated hardware dashcam units, using the driver's existing smartphone to deliver the same core functionality.

Incorporated in California in December 2018 and led by co-founder Constantine Mittendorf, NavVid is an early-stage company that has attracted industry attention, including a presentation slot at the InsurTech Alliance (ITA) Science and Engineering Expo in January 2020.
