Overview

Century Insurance Group is a nationally recognized excess and surplus (E&S) lines specialty carrier, providing non-admitted commercial insurance coverage for small and mid-sized businesses. Founded in 1978 to write coal mine reclamation bonds in Ohio, the company pivoted to excess and surplus lines in 1984 and has since grown into a prominent specialty insurer distributing exclusively through a select network of professional general agents and wholesale brokers across all 50 states.

Century has a long track record of technology adoption in the E&S market, developing a proprietary policy management system in 2002 and launching Century Online (COL) -- one of the insurance industry's first online rating and quoting platforms -- in 2006. The company also offers API connectivity enabling agents and vendors to integrate directly with Century's rating and form systems. In 2024, A.M. Best upgraded Century's financial strength rating to "A" (Excellent) with a Stable Outlook, and EPIC Insurance Brokers & Consultants completed its acquisition of Century Insurance Group.
